INTAC

International Art Collaboration 2019

During my second year of studies I took part of INTAC, a collaborative art project spanning over multiple universities globally. The goal of INTAC is to create connection through art and technology between diverse groups of artists by working together across the globe.

The 2019/2020 theme was “Connections/Reconnections”, to highlight and challenge various forms of connections. Many roots of connection have weakened in today’s world, while other new opportunities have been enabled. Thinking both locally and globally, we can consider what is lost and how we might reconnect in multiple ways. To think WHY and HOW we as humans connect or reconnect, what platforms facilitate or hinder this.

The work made for the projects were presented in the exhibition. Due to COVID-19, rather than a physical exhibition in Toluca, Mexico, a 3D virtual exhibition is open to see the final projects.

MY PROJECT:

THE LONG DISTANCE PROJECT

I based this project off my own relationships, and how I’ve had to connect in different ways, typically through the Internet, to have and continue a relationship with the people in my life. In this collaborative project participants create a visual representation of their personal long-distance relationship(s), whether it be family, friends, colleagues, or lovers.

Long distance relationships often are most people’s reality, as people are constantly changing and moving. When you move away from your family, a colleague or a lover lives across the country, or a best friend switches schools, examples of relationships becoming long distance. Staying connected used to meant sending letters that took weeks to arrive or traveling a great distance. Keeping close to your people is easier than ever with social media, Skype, and messaging apps. In different relationships you have your own way of staying connected, the preference in how you stay close.

PROJECTS I PARTICIPATED IN:

color connection

Experimenting with colours as a visual communication tool, this piece aims to create an open dialog with colours to connect artists from various backgrounds in a universal and equal opportunity manner. Drawing attention to the three primary colours: Red, Yellow and Blue, each colour provides a common ground for artists to share their experiences, ideas & emotions during the process.

CONNECTION earth

Connection Earth is an international collective and collaborative project focusing on the relationship we have with nature. Through various mediums, we aim to unearth what it would say to be a human and the impact of our culture on the landscape. With people peaking through leaves, expressing their relationship with animals and using nature as a prop, we are heading towards a new view on how to get one again with the planet that offers us shelter.

The Stories of Our Jewelry

The jewelry we wear and own have stories. They may be a person’s connection to culture, tradition, personal and family history, or be an important staple of their self-expression. The connections formed can be significant, and the stories worth sharing. The intent of this project is to uncover those stories.

HUMAN TOUCH

Everyday we connect with others through the action of touch. It connects every person around the globe, strangers and friends. A hug, a handshake, a kiss. A collaboration of people from around the world worked on this project to capture and display the ways that we connect with each other everyday.
